Farmland Defence League Endorses Carol Day and Michael Wolfe for Richmond City Council

RICHMOND, BC – The Farmland Defence League announced that it has endorsed RITE Richmond candidates Carol Day and Michael Wolfe for Richmond City Council for the 2014 Municipal Elections, according to a news release Thursday morning.

As the Richmond Director of the Farmland Defence League for 6 years, Wolfe helped save the Garden City Lands from development and has been a leading educator on farmland preservation.

Alongside Wolfe and Garden City Conservation Society president Jim Wright, Day also helped save the Garden City Lands and has continually advocated for farmland preservation.

The Farmland Defence League also endorsed Harold Steves, referring to him as the “father” of the organization and the Agricultural Land Reserve.

Here are the full excerpts from the release:

On Michael Wolfe:

“Richmond Director of the Farmland Defence League for 6 years and one of the leading community advocates for the preservation of Garden City Lands, this university-educated biologist and high school teacher has engaged his fellow Richmond residents in critical discussions about farmland preservation and its impact on all Richmond species who depend upon it.”

On Carol Day:

“With a number of connections to Richmond’s and the region’s environmental causes, Carol has been an advocate for the preservation of Richmond farmland for several years, including the Garden City Lands and fighting the surrender of farmland for construction of religious institutions and jet fuel transportation routes that threaten fish habitat in the southern arm of the Fraser River.”

The 2014 Municipal Election is on November 15.
